LAKELAND – Colby Garthwaite is headed back the state swimming finals.

The George Jenkins senior qualified in the boys 100-yard breaststroke after finishing sixth at the Region 4A2 meet on Saturday at the Long Center in Clearwater. He finished with a sizzling 59.85 time, a personal best for The Ledger All-County first teamer. In a very fast regional, all of the top six swimmers qualified for the breaststroke in the top 13.

He will compete on Saturday at FHSAA 4A state finals at Sailfish Splashpark Aquatic Center in Stuart. He finished 13th at the state finals last year after touching the pads at 1:00.70 in the consolation final.

The Jenkins boys, which won the Polk County meet in October, finished 13th at the regional with 52 points. Sarasota Riverview won with 327. Riverview (376) also won the girls regional and Jenkins was 18th with 26.
