Against more than 35 teams and some of the best competition in Florida, the George Jenkins Boys Track team was able to once again dominate the competition and come away with the Team Championship at the Kowboy Invitational at Kissimmee Osceola High School. The Eagles finished the meet with 85 points, besting 2nd place Chiles High School from Tallahassee by 39 point. The Eagles have now won their last 12 regular season meets dating back to last season.
The Eagles were able to take a commanding lead at the end of the Field Events with the Jumpers and Throwers having outstanding performances, racking up 46 points for the Eagles. In the Jumps, the Eagles were paced by their trio of outstanding Pole Vaulters as Sophomore Kyle Murawski came away with the win, edging out fellow Sophomore and teammate Riley Ott who finished 2nd. Junior Steele Alleva completed the scoring for the Eagles in the Pole Vault with a 6th place finish. In the Long Jump, the Eagles were led by Sophomore Terrance Denson who jumped to an impressive 2nd place finish with a jump of 22’4. Damarcus Sneed also scored in the Long Jump, with a 5th place finish with a jump of 20’11. In the Triple Jump, Freshman Manny Gibson soared to a huge PR of 41’11, good enough for a 5th place finish. In the Throws, the Eagles were led by Senior Jordan Domineck who placed 4th in the Discus, while also placing 7th in the Shot Put. Senior Ryan Gutierrez completed the scoring in the Field Events with a 5th place finish in the Discus.
On the track, Sophomore Tyson Williams blazed to a new PR of 14.54 and a 1st place finish in the 110MH, narrowly edging out Tyler Rhodes from Northside Christian by 0.005 seconds. Williams’ time was just 0.01 second off of the school record. Williams came back in the 300MH with a strong run of 39.51 seconds, good enough for a 3rd place finish.
Junior Brady Zimmerman had a day to remember for the Eagles as he ran a massive 7 second PR in the 1600 with a time of 4:26.01, placing 6th in the event consisting of a very fast field. Less than an hour later, Zimmerman ran to another PR, this time in the 3200, as he ran a great time of 9:50.64. Zimmerman’s performance was good enough for a 3rd place finish in the event.
Also scoring for the Eagles in the running events were Sophomores Terrance Denson and Damarcus Sneed. Denson ran to a 6th place finish in the 200, while Sneed ran to a 6th place finish in the 110MH. The 4×800 Relay Team consisting of Harley Lauscar, Chase Jones, Thomas Townley, and Brady Zimmerman ran to a 4th place finish. Ending the scoring for the Eagles was the 4×400 team consisting of Austin Cowans, Riley Ott, Steele Alleva, and Terrance Denson who placed 8th.
The Eagles will continue their season this Saturday at the Bob English Track as they look to win their 3rd straight Polk County Championship. Come on out and support our program as we continue on our mission of winning County, District, and Regional Titles.
