For the second time in as many meets, the GJHS Boys Track Team dominated the competition and came away with the team title at the Berkeley Prep Invitational. The Eagles finished the meet with 155 points, besting 2nd place East Lake High School by 58 points.
Once again, the Eagles excelled in the field events scoring a total of 47 points in the 6 events. Leading the way were Jenkins’ trio of Discus athletes as Jordan Domineck placed 1st with a new PR of 141-10. Ryan Gutierrez finished in 3rd place with a new PR of 135-07, while Andy Labrada finished in 4th place with a throw of 127-0. Only 2 meets into the season, all 3 of Jenkins’ Discus athletes are currently in the top 10 in Florida in Class 4A. In the Pole Vault, Jenkins went 5th, 6th, and 7th with Riley Ott, Kyle Murawski, and Steele Alleva jumping very well. Terrance Denson took home 2nd place in the Long Jump with teammate Damarcus Sneed placing 6th. Rounding out the scoring in the field events were Will Hodges and Jaycen Brehmer who tied for 6th place in the High Jump and Nate Ashley who placed 8th in the Triple Jump.
On the track, the Eagles’ hurdlers put on a show, with 3 hurdlers scoring in the 110MH and 4 hurdlers scoring in the 300MH. Tyson Williams paced the Eagles with a 1st place finish in the 110MH with a Season Best time of 14.98, while also placing 2nd in the 300MH with a new PR of 40.91. Damarcus Sneed was right behind Williams with a 2nd place finish in the 110MH and 3rd place finish in the 300MH. Steele Alleva also placed in both hurdle events, finishing 8th in the 110MH and 5th in the 300MH, while Riley Ott came through with a 6th place finish in the 300MH in only his 2nd attempt ever at the event. All totaled, the Eagles’ hurdlers amassed 40 points in their two events.
In the sprints, Jaden Rudolph placed 6th with a season best time of 11.22, followed by fellow Sophomore Austin Cowans who finished in 8th placed with a new PR of 11.31. Both Rudolph and Cowans placed in the 200 as well with Rudolph running to a 4th place finish and Cowans to a 5th place finish. Terrance Denson placed 4th in the 400 even though he pulled up slightly before the end of the race with a leg injury.
Not to be outdone, the Eagles’ mid-distance and distance runners competed extremely hard, paced by Brady Zimmerman who ran to a 2nd place finish in the 1600 with a new PR of 4:33.38, besting his previous PR by 7 seconds. In the 800, the Eagles placed 4 runners led by Thomas Townley’s 3rd place finish. Townley was closely followed by teammates Harley Lauscar and Chase Jones who finished 4th and 5th respectively. Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles in the 800 was Brendan Moore with an 8th place finish.
The Eagles will continue their season this Saturday, March 3rd at the Bob English Family Track at Jenkins as they compete against over 24 teams in the Bob English Relays. Come on out and support our program as we continue on our mission of winning County, District, and Regional Titles.
