WINTER HAVEN — Depth is not only synonymous with water but also with success in high school swim meets.
Winter Haven head swim coach Danny Wallace knows exactly how that works. His Blue Devil boys scored 193 points Saturday to win the boys’ team title 2016 Polk County Swim and Dive Championships at Rowdy Gaines Pool in Winter Haven.
The team victory stopped a two-year drought, losing to George Jenkins the last two years. All Saints Academy was second, behind Harrison and William Paul, with 156 points and George Jeninks was third with 140.
On the girls’ side, Jenkins swam its way to the team title with 215 points, followed by Lakeland with 171, McKeel Academy with 154 and the Blues Devils 124 points.
The Jenkins girls had some big wins, but one of the biggest was from Tory Manno, a freshman who won the 100 breastroke in 1:13.40.
“The girls did really well today,” said coach Jenn Gosline. “We are excited about heading to the district meet in Orlando (Oct. 21). “
